Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan is experiencing prolonged power outages lasting between 8 and 16 hours across the country, intensifying public hardship amid extreme summer heat.
According to official sources, the national electricity shortfall has surged to approximately 6,500 megawatts, highlighting a significant gap between supply and demand. The country’s total power generation currently stands at around 15,400 megawatts, while demand has climbed to nearly 22,000 megawatts.
The energy mix reveals that hydropower is contributing about 1,500 megawatts, while thermal sources remain the largest contributor at 9,250 megawatts. Solar power generation is limited to 400 megawatts, with bagasse-based plants adding 200 megawatts.
Meanwhile, wind energy is generating approximately 1,200 megawatts, and nuclear power plants are producing around 2,850 megawatts. Despite contributions from multiple sources, the widening supply-demand gap continues to drive extended load shedding nationwide.
The ongoing power crisis underscores structural challenges in Pakistan’s energy sector, raising concerns over economic activity and public welfare.
