United Nations, New York – Web Desk: Pakistan has condemned the recent Houthi ballistic missile attacks on Saudi Arabia, reaffirming its full support for the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, during an emergency UN Security Council session on the Middle East situation .
Pakistan’s Stance at the UN
Speaking at the emergency meeting, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, strongly denounced the missile strikes and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the protection of Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty .
He emphasized that Pakistan supports Yemen’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
Call for Diplomacy and Restraint
Ambassador Jadoon urged all parties to adopt dialogue, diplomacy, and restraint to reduce escalating tensions across the region, particularly in Yemen. He stressed that lasting peace in Yemen can only be achieved through a comprehensive political process led by the Yemeni people with UN assistance .
The ambassador noted that the prisoner exchange agreement is proof that positive progress can be achieved through negotiations even in difficult circumstances. He called on all parties to continue constructive negotiations for a nationwide ceasefire and comprehensive political settlement .
Concern for Civilians
Highlighting the suffering of Yemeni civilians, Jadoon stated that years of war, displacement, economic crisis, and food insecurity have severely impacted ordinary citizens, and further escalation would only worsen their plight .
UN Personnel Detentions
Pakistan also expressed concern over the alleged arbitrary detention of UN personnel, humanitarian aid workers, and diplomatic staff by Houthi forces, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained individuals. Jadoon emphasized that the privileges and immunities of UN personnel, facilities, and assets must be fully respected .
He reiterated Pakistan’s continued support for dialogue, diplomacy, and all sincere efforts to restore peace and stability in the region .
