Pakistan condemns drone attacks on Saudi oil pipeline

Pakistan condemns attacks on Saudi Arabia’s East-West Pipeline, calling them a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability.

ISLAMABAD – Web Desk: Pakistan on Saturday strongly condemned drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s East-West Pipeline in the Riyadh and Madinah regions, reaffirming its support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.

The Foreign Office said the attacks targeting the pipeline and civilian infrastructure were a “flagrant violation of international law” and Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also warned that the attacks posed a serious threat to regional peace, security and stability.

Pakistan reiterated its solidarity with Saudi Arabia’s leadership, government and people and said it would continue efforts to promote lasting peace and stability in the region.

Saudi Arabia shuts East-West Pipeline

Saudi Arabia temporarily shut down its East-West Pipeline after it was targeted by several drones, according to the Saudi Energy Ministry.

The attacks took place Thursday morning in the Riyadh and Medina regions. Saudi authorities said emergency and technical teams were working to secure the pipeline and assess its condition.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said the attack involved several drones launched from Iraq and caused injuries and material damage.

What is Saudi Arabia’s East-West Pipeline?

The East-West Pipeline, also known as Petroline, is one of Saudi Arabia’s key crude oil transportation systems.

Operated by Saudi Aramco, the pipeline stretches about 1,200 kilometres (745 miles) from Abqaiq in eastern Saudi Arabia to Yanbu on the Red Sea coast.

The pipeline allows Saudi Arabia to transport crude from its main production and processing areas in the east toward western refineries, storage facilities and export terminals.

Its strategic importance has increased amid the current regional conflict because it provides an alternative route for transporting Saudi crude toward the Red Sea without relying on the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistan reiterates regional peace efforts

The Foreign Office said Islamabad had consistently worked toward lasting peace and stability in the region.

Pakistan’s latest statement comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East and renewed attacks affecting Saudi territory and energy infrastructure.

The attacks also come shortly after Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye formalised the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, a trilateral security framework aimed at strengthening defence cooperation and regional stability.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan previously said Islamabad would act under the agreement if and when required, while stressing that no military response was currently under discussion.
