Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Former Karachi Mayor and Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Wasim Akhtar has demanded that the party sever ties with the federal government and relinquish its ministerial portfolios following the sudden change of the Sindh governor.
Speaking on Express News’ Center Stage program, Akhtar described the removal of Kamran Tessori from the governor’s office as a “shocking development” and criticized the government for informing MQM-P of the decision through media channels rather than consulting the party.
He said, “If such a decision was to be made, MQM-P should have been consulted. Making unilateral decisions without our input sets a dangerous precedent. The PML-N often seeks MQM’s votes for its own interests but disregards our voice.”
Akhtar emphasized that MQM-P officials must now evaluate why the party is being treated lightly and warned that ministerial positions should be surrendered immediately if demands continue to be ignored. “The authority over the governor’s post should remain with MQM-P, as the Prime Minister had acknowledged,” he added.
He further stated that MQM-P is a coalition partner in the government, and no one has the right to remove its members arbitrarily. He recalled that during the PDM-1 period, MQM-P had formally submitted its demands to the government, which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had accepted. “Decisions made without consultation or trust are beyond comprehension,” he said.
Akhtar also suggested that political interference by the governor and activities at the President House may have contributed to the decision, implying that other parties, including Pakistan Peoples Party, may have played a role.
