Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal urges Pakistan to make Karachi the economic hub under federal control
Karachi: MQM has formally demanded that Karachi, Pakistan’s economic hub, be brought under federal control. Speaking at a press conference in Bahadurabad, Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal highlighted the city’s ongoing crises, including fires, extortion, and public safety threats, calling them “democratic terrorism.”
He criticized the provincial government for inaction over incidents like the Baldia Factory fire and recent commercial building fires, stressing that Karachi’s residents continue to suffer while political disputes hinder necessary governance. Kamal urged the federal government to invoke Articles 148 and 149 of the Constitution to integrate Karachi as a federal territory, making it the economic capital of Pakistan.
He emphasized that the city’s contribution to the national economy warrants direct federal oversight, ensuring safety, governance, and justice for its citizens. Kamal’s appeal reflects growing concerns over urban management and law enforcement failures in the country’s largest metropolis.
