Moscow hails Elektrobuses as 2025 eco transport milestone

Date:

MOSCOW (Web Desk) – Moscow’s push for environmental innovation in public transport has been declared a major success, with the “Moscow Elektrobus” programme ranked among the city’s most significant projects for 2025.

In recognition of its achievements, Mosgortrans Director General Nikolay Asaul received the international “Expert of the Year — 2025” award in the Energy, Transport and Logistics category.

According to the awarding organisation, the honour is reserved for projects that deliver notable transformation in the economy, industry and urban life. Moscow’s elektrobus programme was praised for introducing a modern, eco-friendly and low-noise public transport system that has brought wide-scale improvements to the Russian capital.

Official data shows that Moscow now operates Europe and the United States’ largest elektrobus fleet, carrying nearly one million passengers daily. Over the past seven years, the shift to electric buses has helped reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 190,000 tonnes.

Mosgortrans says elektrobuses now make up more than one-third of the city’s entire transport fleet and environmentally friendly routes have expanded to nearly all Moscow districts. Continuous upgrades are under way in design, comfort and technology.

In 2025, the city also introduced the advanced KAMAZ–52222 (A5 generation) model, offering enhanced comfort, safety and fast-charging capabilities.

Global interest in Moscow’s transport transformation is also rising. Major media outlets from the Gulf countries, China, Spain, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands and Sweden are regularly publishing reports on the capital’s eco-friendly transport model.
