Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Former Pakistan Test captain and ex-chief selector Moin Khan has urged the national team not to underestimate Bangladesh ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series, stressing the importance of selection standards and consistency in leadership.
Speaking to the media, Moin Khan said Bangladesh are strong at home and will enjoy a clear advantage in familiar conditions, but Pakistan’s squad has the potential to deliver strong results if properly prepared.
He said the national selection committee should apply clear and consistent criteria when choosing players, adding that performance standards must remain the top priority.
Moin Khan also praised head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed, stating that his international experience and strong rapport with players could help improve Pakistan cricket in the long term. He added that players respect Sarfaraz and respond positively to his leadership approach.
On captaincy, Moin Khan said Shan Masood should be given sufficient time to establish himself as Test captain, calling him a “calm and intelligent decision-maker.”
Former spinner and ex-selection committee member Tauseef Ahmed also weighed in, suggesting that Pakistan should publicly clarify its selection policy. He emphasized the need for thorough preparation against Bangladesh, noting that modern teams arrive with detailed analysis of opponents.
Tauseef added that Bangladesh could benefit from home conditions, particularly against left-arm spin, and welcomed Babar Azam’s return to form in the Pakistan Super League. However, he said it would be better not to reinstate Babar as captain at this stage, arguing that he should first focus solely on his batting responsibilities.
Pakistan are scheduled to begin their two-match Test series against Bangladesh as part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle.
