Modi Criticised Over Reliance on Teleprompters, Media Scrutiny

Date:

New Delhi, India – Web Desk: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has faced criticism from sections of commentators and media reports over his engagement with free press during international visits, with concerns raised about limited direct press interactions and reliance on prepared briefings.

According to Indian publication The Wire and other critical commentary, questions have been raised regarding media freedom and the nature of press coverage in India, with critics alleging a growing dominance of pro-government narratives in parts of the media landscape.

The debate has also focused on Modi’s preference for controlled media environments during foreign trips, where he is often seen interacting with selected journalists or avoiding open-ended press conferences.

Critics argue that this approach limits scrutiny and reduces opportunities for challenging questions on key policy issues, including economic policy, governance, and foreign relations.

Supporters of the government, however, maintain that official communication channels and structured briefings ensure clarity and consistency in messaging during diplomatic engagements.

The issue continues to fuel wider debate on press freedom, media independence, and political communication in India.
