Dhaka (Web Desk) – Significant leadership changes have been announced within the Bangladesh Army, including the appointment of a new Chief of General Staff. The reshuffle comes shortly after political developments in the country following the assumption of office by Prime Minister Tariq Rahman.
According to an official military communiqué, Brigadier General Muhammad Hafiz-ur-Rehman—previously serving as defense attaché in India—has been promoted to major general and appointed as General Officer Commanding of the 55 Infantry Division. He has been recalled to Bangladesh to assume his new duties.
Lieutenant General Muhammad Moin-ur-Rehman has been named Chief of General Staff, a key strategic position within the military hierarchy. Additionally, Major General Qaiser Rashid Chaudhry has been appointed Director General of Forces Intelligence, while Major General Muhammad Jahangir Alam will serve as ambassador in the foreign ministry.
Reports also indicate that Lieutenant General Mir Mushfiq-ur-Rehman has been designated Principal Staff Officer in the Armed Forces Division, replacing Lieutenant General SM Qamar-ul-Hassan, whose services have been transferred to the foreign ministry.
The changes reflect ongoing restructuring within Bangladesh’s security and administrative apparatus following the recent parliamentary elections, in which the BNP secured a majority and political leadership has shifted.
