Beirut, Lebanon – Web Desk: A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah has come into effect in Lebanon following days of intense cross-border clashes, according to multiple international media reports.
Hezbollah confirmed that the ceasefire began at 4 p.m. local time on Thursday, stating that implementation of the agreement started immediately after receiving official notification.
Reuters reported, citing two senior Hezbollah sources, that the truce followed several hours of deadly fighting that caused significant casualties on both sides. The sources said the group began adhering to the agreement as soon as it took effect.
U.S. officials also confirmed the ceasefire deal, according to Reuters, adding that the agreement was reached through mediation efforts led by the United States and Qatar, with Iran reportedly playing a supportive role in facilitating negotiations.
The Associated Press and Agence France-Presse also confirmed the implementation of the ceasefire, describing it as a step aimed at reducing escalating violence and stabilizing the situation in southern Lebanon.
However, analysts warn the truce remains fragile, with both Israel and Hezbollah previously accusing each other of violations in ongoing hostilities, raising concerns over its long-term durability.
The agreement follows a deadly escalation in which Hezbollah strikes killed multiple Israeli soldiers, including senior officers, prompting threats of intensified military retaliation from Israeli leadership.
The situation remains highly sensitive as both sides assess compliance with the newly announced ceasefire.
