Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has said that despite deep internal divisions within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), all factions are united on one point — that former prime minister Imran Khan should remain in prison.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Asif criticized the PTI and the provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, accusing it of prioritizing efforts for Khan’s release while failing to address security challenges.
He alleged that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would form a “release force” for Imran Khan but would not speak out against militant violence. He further claimed that provincial authorities avoid attending funerals of security personnel killed in attacks, adding that police officers are being targeted daily.
Asif also criticized what he described as internal infighting within PTI, stating that party members publicly criticize one another while remaining united on the issue of Khan’s incarceration. He said the party’s factions have “thousands of differences” but share a common position that Khan should stay behind bars.
The defense minister’s remarks come amid ongoing political tensions in Pakistan, where Imran Khan faces multiple legal cases and remains imprisoned. PTI leaders have repeatedly called for his release, while the government maintains that legal proceedings are being carried out in accordance with the law.
The latest comments underscore continuing political polarization in the country as debates over governance, security, and accountability intensify.
