ISLAMABAD — The federal government has unveiled the proposed draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, outlining changes to five key articles of the Constitution.
According to sources, amendments are suggested in Articles 160 (Clause 3A), 213, 243, 191A, and a new article related to judicial restructuring. The proposal includes:
- Ending constitutional guarantees for provinces’ share in federal revenue (Article 160 3A)
- Establishing a Supreme Constitutional Court under a new judicial framework (Article 191A)
- Changing authority over constitutional interpretation
- Amending Article 200 to allow transfer of High Court judges
- Bringing education and population planning back under federal control
- Placing full command of armed forces under federal government (Article 243)
- Revising the appointment process for Chief Election Commissioner (Article 213)
The draft has been shared with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and the government has sought its support for approval.
