Pakistan Meteorological Department says a weakening low-pressure system and moist winds from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to bring intermittent rainfall to Karachi and parts of Sindh.
KARACHI, Pakistan — WEB DESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in Karachi from the evening of August 1 until August 2, as a weakening low-pressure weather system continues to influence conditions across parts of Sindh.
According to the PMD, a deep depression that developed over the Bay of Bengal is currently located over Madhya Pradesh, India, and is expected to weaken over the next 12 hours. The system is forecast to further weaken into a low-pressure area within 24 to 36 hours.
Rain Expected Across Sindh
The weather department said moist winds from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are entering Pakistan’s upper and central regions, while a western weather system is also affecting the country’s northern areas.
Under the influence of the system, intermittent rainfall is expected from the evening or night of July 31 through August 2 in several districts of Sindh, including:
- Tharparkar
- Umerkot
- Mithi
- Sanghar
- Hyderabad
Karachi Forecast
For Karachi, the PMD said rain is expected between the evening of August 1 and August 2.
The department forecast light to moderate rainfall, adding that heavy downpours are not expected in the city under the influence of the current weather system.
Residents have nevertheless been advised to stay updated with official weather forecasts, as local weather conditions may change.
