Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: A case has been registered in the aftermath of the devastating gas explosion at Soldier Bazaar, Karachi, which killed 16 people and injured 14 others. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced.
Police reported that the FIR was filed under multiple sections, including culpable homicide, negligence in building construction, and property damage. The building owner, Muhammad Irshad, has been arrested.
According to the FIR, the three-story building was illegally constructed on a 40-yard plot, with ground plus three floors, using TR girders and tiles. On the first floor, resident Zeb-un-Nisa ignited a stove during Sehri, which caused a fire and subsequent explosion due to a gas leak from a faulty pipeline.
The blast caused significant destruction, collapsing parts of the building. The Bomb Disposal Squad confirmed that poor gas pipeline installation led to gas accumulation, which ignited when exposed to flame. Reports indicate that the owner illegally installed the building and its gas connections between 2007 and 2008.
CCTV footage shows the explosion occurring at 3:47 a.m., with dust and debris immediately spreading. Local residents quickly rushed from nearby homes to assist at the scene.
