United Nations, New York – Web Desk: Diplomatic decorum broke down at the United Nations on Friday when Israel’s Ambassador Danny Danon shouted at senior UN officials, telling them to “be quiet” during an event marking the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict .
The confrontation erupted after Danon used his speaking time to attack the UN leadership and demand the resignation of Special Representative Pramila Patten, who authored a 2025 report documenting patterns of sexual violence against Palestinians detained by Israeli forces .
“You caved to the secretary-general’s obsession with targeting Israel,” Danon said, accusing Patten of bias. The report, which for the first time added Israel to a UN blacklist for conflict-related sexual violence, documented 31 verified cases against Palestinians, including men, women, and children, with violations ranging from rape and gang rape to physical violence and forced nudity .
When Vanessa Frazier, the UN Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, attempted to raise a point of order and object to what she described as “personal attacks” against UN officials, Danon turned his fury on her .
“No, you be quiet! Because I am speaking now!” Danon shouted. “Shame on you. You are part of this obsession” .
Frazier pushed back, insisting, “This should not be personal… I want a point of order.” But Danon continued, telling her, “We are a member state, and you work for the UN, and you will be quiet now. You will be quiet… you and your shameful report” .
Frazier had recently published a separate report blacklisting Israel’s military and security forces for “grave violations” against Palestinian children, warning that the violations had reached the highest level since the mandate was created three decades ago .
Israel has denied UN bodies access to conduct independent investigations into the allegations . Following the publication of the sexual violence report, Israel’s foreign ministry announced it would sever ties with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres before his term ends this year .
Both reports also blacklist Hamas, which has been accused of similar violations against Israeli hostages .
