An underground National Refinery fuel pipeline reportedly leaked on Khayaban-e-Sehar in Defence, forcing authorities to close the affected road.
KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: An underground National Refinery fuel pipeline reportedly developed a leak in Karachi’s Defence area, causing oil to spill onto Khayaban-e-Sehar and prompting authorities to close the affected section of the road to traffic.
According to police, the pipeline is located beneath the middle of the road and is believed to be relatively old.
Oil spills onto Khayaban-e-Sehar
Police said the pipeline leak resulted in fuel reaching the road surface, creating a potentially hazardous situation for motorists and pedestrians.
Authorities subsequently closed the affected road to traffic as a precaution.
The disruption may affect traffic movement in the surrounding Defence area while repair work is underway.
National Refinery team begins repair work
Police said the National Refinery was informed about the leak and the fuel supply through the affected pipeline was stopped.
A National Refinery team later reached the location and began work to address the leak and repair the pipeline.
Officials are expected to assess the condition of the underground line and determine the cause and extent of the leakage.
Traffic remains restricted
The affected section of Khayaban-e-Sehar has been closed to traffic while repair and safety operations continue.
Motorists travelling through Defence are advised to use alternative routes until the road is reopened.
Authorities have not indicated how long the repair work will take.
