Mediterranean Sea – Web Desk: Israel has reportedly intercepted and blocked the Global Sumud Flotilla carrying humanitarian aid bound for Gaza, according to aid organizers and participant statements.
The humanitarian group said Israeli naval speedboats surrounded several vessels in the convoy and took control of the flotilla while it was sailing in the Mediterranean Sea. Organizers also reported losing contact with multiple aid workers on board.
Among those participating in the mission was Saad Edhi, who said on social media that Israeli warships were tracking the convoy and that there were concerns the vessels could be detained in international waters.
He described the mission as peaceful and aimed solely at delivering humanitarian assistance to Gaza, adding that one of the boats had already been stopped by Israeli forces.
The flotilla, which departed from Türkiye on May 15, included humanitarian activists from various countries. The organizers said communication with the convoy has since been cut off, raising concerns over the safety of those on board.
The Edhi Foundation has long been involved in global humanitarian efforts, and participation in such missions reflects ongoing international civil society efforts to deliver aid to conflict-affected Gaza.
Israeli authorities have not yet issued an official detailed statement regarding the incident at the time of reporting.
