Islamabad Police Get New Vehicles After 14 Years, 9,000 Recruits Planned

Date:

Islamabad’s 27 police stations receive 30 new vehicles after 14 years, while the government plans to recruit 9,000 personnel and upgrade stations.

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Islamabad’s 27 police stations have received 30 new vehicles as part of a wider government effort to modernise policing in the federal capital, while authorities have also announced plans to recruit 9,000 new personnel to address manpower shortages.

The vehicles were formally handed over to Islamabad Police at a ceremony attended by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, according to Express News.

Officials said police stations in the capital had been operating with ageing vehicles for around 14 years, creating logistical challenges for officers responding to incidents across Islamabad.

New vehicles aimed at improving police response

Speaking at the ceremony, Naqvi said effective modern policing could not be achieved with outdated and unreliable vehicles and that law enforcement agencies needed resources suited to present-day operational requirements.

He said the newly provided vehicles were expected to improve police response times and strengthen officers’ ability to protect residents and maintain security across the federal capital.

The government, he added, was working to provide Islamabad Police with the equipment and logistical resources required to perform its responsibilities more effectively.

Naqvi also said construction, renovation and upgrading work was under way at police stations across Islamabad and would be completed as part of the broader modernisation programme.

Electric vehicles part of modernisation drive

The interior minister highlighted the introduction of electric vehicles as part of the government’s environmentally focused policy.

He said greater use of electric vehicles could reduce fuel consumption and significantly lower petroleum-related operating costs for the police force.

Islamabad Police has been undergoing wider logistical and technological changes in recent years as authorities seek to improve policing standards in the rapidly expanding capital.

9,000 new personnel planned

Talal Chaudhry said all 27 police stations had now been provided with new vehicles, replacing a fleet that had remained in service for years.

He said additional logistical facilities were also being provided to police officers, while residential accommodation was being developed for personnel.

A major part of the programme will focus on addressing the force’s staffing shortage. Chaudhry said 9,000 new personnel were being recruited, with authorities seeking to ensure that appointments were made on merit.

Official Islamabad Police material has previously documented recruitment drives aimed at increasing the force’s strength, including recruitment of more than 1,600 constables.

Separate recruitment material published in 2026 also confirms that Islamabad Capital Police has continued hiring for different positions through its formal recruitment system.

Police stations to be upgraded this year

Chaudhry said construction and rehabilitation work was also continuing at all 27 police stations covered by the programme, with the government aiming to complete the work during the current year.

The minister of state said the combination of new vehicles, additional personnel, improved logistics and upgraded infrastructure was intended to develop Islamabad Police into a model force for the rest of the country.

He said significant changes to the capital’s police infrastructure and resources had taken place during the past two years.

The ceremony was also attended by the federal interior secretary, the inspector general of Islamabad Police and other senior police officials.

The latest initiative forms part of a broader effort to improve law enforcement capacity in Islamabad by addressing ageing equipment, infrastructure requirements and shortages in police personnel.
