Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has warned the United States that it may close key international sea routes if the reported naval blockade against Iranian ports continues, escalating tensions in the Gulf region.
According to Iranian state-linked statements, the United States allegedly imposed a maritime restriction from Monday, blocking access to Iranian-bound shipping routes and forcing several commercial vessels in the Gulf of Oman to turn back.
Iran has strongly condemned the move, calling it a violation of a ceasefire understanding under ongoing diplomatic efforts. Tehran has demanded the immediate reopening of sea lanes.
Major General Ali Abdollahi, commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, said that if the United States continues to block Iranian commercial ships and oil tankers, it would be considered a breach of ceasefire conditions.
He further warned that Iranian armed forces could respond by restricting passage through key maritime chokepoints, including the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and the Red Sea, potentially affecting international shipping traffic.
Reports also claim that at least six commercial vessels were turned back in the Gulf of Oman following the blockade measures.
The situation comes as Pakistan-mediated Iran–US talks continue, with several issues still unresolved and a second round of negotiations expected later this week.
