Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Iran has reportedly sent a new draft proposal for negotiations with the United States through Pakistan, as diplomatic efforts to sustain a ceasefire and advance talks continue.
According to Iranian state news agency IRNA, Tehran handed over the draft to Pakistani officials on Thursday evening for onward transmission to Washington. The proposal is part of ongoing backchannel diplomacy aimed at stabilising tensions between Iran and the United States.
Pakistani authorities are expected to convey the document to US officials, after which any response will be relayed back to Tehran. So far, neither side has issued an official statement regarding the latest draft, and details of the proposal remain undisclosed.
However, a US-based media outlet has suggested that the draft may outline a phased peace process. This could include consolidating the ceasefire, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and subsequently addressing more complex issues such as Iran’s nuclear programme.
Pakistan has been playing a key mediating role in facilitating communication between the two sides, while also engaging international stakeholders to support the diplomatic process.
Analysts say Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts have contributed to maintaining the ceasefire and keeping negotiations alive, though significant differences remain — particularly over the sequencing of discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme.
A Reuters report noted that Washington has expressed reservations about some Iranian proposals, especially regarding Tehran’s reported preference to delay talks on its nuclear activities. These disagreements are seen as a major obstacle to reaching a comprehensive agreement.
