TEHRAN – Web Desk: New developments have emerged in the ongoing back-channel diplomatic contacts between Iran and the United States, with Tehran placing several key demands before Washington to advance negotiations, according to Iranian officials.
Iran wants an end to ongoing tensions in the region, the restoration of frozen assets abroad, and the protection of Iranian ships in international waterways to be a fundamental part of the negotiations. Iranian media reports claim that recent messages sent by the US have reduced gaps between the two countries on certain matters, but an atmosphere of trust has still not been fully restored.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated in his remarks that Tehran is serious about negotiations, but some concerns remain due to past experiences. He said Iran wants an end to ongoing conflicts on various fronts, including Lebanon, and a reduction in regional tensions. He also rejected the impression that certain circulating reports about Iran’s nuclear program are based on facts.
According to the spokesman, final details of the negotiations will be shared by relevant officials and the negotiation team at an appropriate time. Meanwhile, Donald Trump stated in a statement that the US is continuing talks with Iran, and Washington’s top priority is to ensure Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons, indicating that a tough stance is also being adopted regarding enriched uranium stockpiles.
