A senior Gulf official says negotiations between Iran and Oman are continuing, but the chances of reaching a final agreement remain uncertain despite optimistic remarks from President Donald Trump.
WASHINGTON / MUSCAT — WEB DESK: Negotiations between Iran and Oman remain ongoing, but the prospects of reaching a final agreement are still uncertain, with the chances currently standing at “50-50,” according to a senior Gulf official cited by CNN.
The report said that while diplomatic discussions are continuing, it would be premature to conclude that both sides will successfully finalize an agreement.
The latest assessment comes after US President Donald Trump said negotiations involving Iran were progressing positively and suggested that an agreement related to the Strait of Hormuz could be reached by Friday.
However, the Gulf official told CNN that several key issues remain unresolved, making it difficult to predict whether the negotiations will ultimately succeed.
According to the report, representatives of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are not part of the Iranian delegation, a development described as significant in the context of the ongoing negotiations.
The talks are primarily focused on maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, shipping arrangements and measures aimed at reducing regional tensions in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.
Political analysts say that if Iran and Oman succeed in reaching an agreement, it could strengthen confidence in global maritime trade, improve energy market stability and help ease geopolitical tensions across the Middle East.
As of now, Iran, Oman and US officials have not officially confirmed the outcome of the negotiations or announced that a final agreement has been reached.
