Abbas Araghchi warns Washington against relying on misleading intelligence over the Strait of Hormuz, saying flawed assessments could worsen tensions.
TEHRAN, IRAN — WEB DESK: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of repeatedly making incorrect assessments and decisions based on what he described as flawed intelligence, warning Washington against making similar miscalculations over the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on X, Araghchi said the United States had for a long time made wrong assessments and taken decisions based on what he called inadequate intelligence and misinformation.
He said American calculations regarding the current war with Iran had also failed to produce the expected results.
Araghchi warns of bigger mistake over Hormuz
The Iranian foreign minister said Washington was now making what he described as an even bigger mistake regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Araghchi warned that decisions based on inaccurate information or flawed assessments of the strategic waterway could further complicate the already tense situation between Iran and the United States.
He also cautioned against what he called “fake intelligence”, arguing that misleading intelligence could be more dangerous than false news because it can influence major policy and military decisions.
Strait of Hormuz at centre of tensions
Araghchi’s warning comes as the Strait of Hormuz remains a major flashpoint in the confrontation between Tehran and Washington.
The waterway connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes.
Large volumes of oil and other energy products pass through the strait, meaning any prolonged disruption or military confrontation there could have significant consequences for global energy markets and shipping.
Iran and the United States have issued competing statements over the strategic waterway as tensions continue to escalate.
Iran warns against miscalculations
Araghchi’s comments suggest that Tehran is particularly concerned about how Washington is assessing the situation around Hormuz.
The Iranian foreign minister argued that incorrect intelligence could lead to decisions that make an already volatile situation even more difficult to control.
His remarks also underline the broader disagreement between Tehran and Washington over the military and strategic developments surrounding Iran.
Araghchi ends message with religious reference
At the conclusion of his post, Araghchi invoked a religious expression, writing that God is the greatest and greater than every power on Earth.
He said Iran places its trust in God.
The statement comes as both sides continue to exchange warnings amid heightened tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and the wider US-Iran confrontation.
