Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that its air defense units shot down a U.S. military drone after it allegedly violated Iranian airspace near the country’s maritime borders.
According to Iranian state media, the incident occurred on Sunday when an American MQ-1 unmanned aerial vehicle reportedly entered an area monitored by Iranian forces. The IRGC said its advanced air defense missile systems quickly detected and engaged the drone, resulting in its destruction.
In an official statement, the IRGC’s Air Defense Command said Iran maintains full surveillance and control over its airspace and maritime boundaries and warned that any violation of the country’s sovereignty would receive a decisive response.
The latest claim comes a day after Iranian authorities reported shooting down another U.S. drone. Iranian officials had also previously claimed that an American MQ-9 drone was destroyed over the Persian Gulf on May 26.
The IRGC further alleged that it had forced an RQ-4 surveillance drone and an F-35 fighter jet to retreat after engaging them near Iranian airspace. No immediate response was available from U.S. authorities regarding the claims.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States amid heightened security concerns across the Middle East.
