Washington / Tehran – Web Desk : Amid escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has claimed it targeted the USS Abraham Lincoln, a U.S. aircraft carrier, with missiles and drones.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that the strike was in response to recent U.S. and Israeli attacks. Iranian media reported that four ballistic missiles were fired at the carrier. The operation reportedly involved both missile and drone attacks.
However, U.S. officials have strongly denied the claims, stating that the carrier sustained no damage and that the missiles did not approach the ship. The USS Abraham Lincoln continues its operations in the region as planned.
The incident highlights the growing volatility in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which roughly 20 percent of the world’s crude oil and natural gas supply passes. Iran has also been deploying drone boats and naval mines in the area, raising concerns over global maritime security.
Analysts warn that the risk of accidental escalation remains high, as U.S. and Iranian forces continue proximal military operations in one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes.
