CAIRO, Egypt — WEB DESK: Iran has described the recent drone attack at Egypt’s Damietta Port as an alleged Israeli “false flag operation,” while Egyptian authorities have denied reports claiming Cairo blamed Tehran for the incident.
According to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Iran considers Egypt a friendly nation and an important regional partner, adding that Egypt’s security remains a priority for Tehran.
In a statement published on the social media platform X, Araghchi warned regional countries to remain vigilant against what he described as alleged Israeli “false flag operations” aimed at undermining regional peace and creating divisions among Muslim countries.
He further said that preserving unity among regional states is essential and urged governments to avoid actions that could increase tensions or weaken cooperation.
Egypt Rejects Reports Blaming Iran
Meanwhile, Egyptian officials rejected media reports suggesting that Cairo had accused Iran of carrying out the drone attack.
According to Egypt’s information authorities, reports claiming that the Egyptian government officially blamed Iran are unfounded and do not reflect the government’s position.
Drone Attack Under Investigation
The incident occurred at Damietta Port, where two vessels caught fire following a reported drone attack.
British maritime security company Ambrey said one of the targets may have included a U.S.-linked gas storage tanker. However, officials have not confirmed responsibility for the attack, and investigations remain ongoing.
No government has officially attributed responsibility for the incident, and authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Regional Tensions Remain High
The incident comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, where maritime security and regional stability remain major concerns.
Analysts say the differing statements from Iran and Egypt highlight growing diplomatic tensions and the increasing role of information campaigns alongside military and political disputes. As investigations continue, responsibility for the attack has not been officially established.
