Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi Criticises PTI Over Imran Khan Health

Date:

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has accused senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) figures of politicising former prime minister Imran Khan’s health, claiming that efforts were made to exploit the issue for political purposes.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Naqvi alleged that Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, opposed certain medical treatment options and attempted to “cash in” on the former premier’s illness politically. He claimed that some party members feared that agreeing to government-arranged treatment would reduce political momentum surrounding the issue.

The interior minister said the government did not intend to politicise the PTI founder’s health and had remained in contact with opposition representatives to ensure transparency. According to Naqvi, authorities offered to provide all necessary medical facilities and even asked PTI leaders to nominate an eye specialist of their choice for Imran Khan’s examination.

He stated that a team of leading public and private doctors conducted a comprehensive medical assessment, adding that the specialists later briefed PTI leadership on the treatment plan and expressed satisfaction with the quality of care being provided. Naqvi also claimed that opposition figures were invited to be present during medical examinations to ensure openness but did not attend.

The minister said that medical reports indicated no serious concerns and urged an end to what he described as “propaganda” surrounding the former prime minister’s health. He further alleged that road blockages organised during protests caused inconvenience to the public despite ongoing medical arrangements.

Naqvi added that government officials had informed PTI leaders, including Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, about medical developments and invited them to visit Adiala Jail with their own doctors if necessary.

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Pakistan, where debates over Imran Khan’s health and prison conditions have sparked strong reactions from both government and opposition supporters.
