Chennai, India – Web Desk: Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) is set to begin its upcoming season with its opening match in India, marking a potential historic move for the tournament.
According to media reports, the first match of the BBL season is expected to be played in December in Chennai, which is likely to host the opening fixtures. Preparations for the venue have reportedly already begun.
Cricket Australia has received positive feedback from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), with Chennai identified as the preferred location for the season opener.
Reports also indicate that a five-member delegation from Cricket Australia recently visited Chennai, where they held meetings with local officials and also attended an Indian Premier League (IPL) match involving Chennai Super Kings.
The delegation has completed a preliminary inspection of the venue, although final approval from government authorities is still pending before an official confirmation is made.
If approved, this would mark the first time the Big Bash League opens its season outside Australia, highlighting growing international collaboration in franchise cricket.
