India may release more water into Rivers Ravi, Jhelum, Sutlej

Date:

The water flow in the Rivers Jhelum, Ravi, and Sutlej is likely to increase as India may release more water into these rivers.

These views were expressed by Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director-General Irfan Ali Kathia while talking to newsmen in Lahore on Saturday.

He said that Punjab will receive more rains automatically raising water flow in drains and ponds. He said that a survey is being conducted to determine the loss due to floods.

Earlier on October 2, 2025, the PDMA issued a rain alert across the province, predicting rain from Thursday to Tuesday in most districts.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, westerly winds have entered upper Punjab, bringing the possibility of heavy rains and thunderstorms in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, and other districts.

PDMA said water flow in rivers and canals may increase due to rains in hilly areas.

Alerts have been issued to all commissioners, deputy commissioners, and relevant departments.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, follow safety instructions, and contact the PDMA helpline 1129 in case of emergency.
