India & EU Seal Historic Trade Deal After Two Decades

Date:

Historic India-EU trade pact finalized, opening vast economic opportunities for both regions

New Delhi, India – Web Desk: After nearly two decades of intermittent negotiations, India and the European Union (EU) have finalized a historic trade agreement, marking a significant milestone in global commerce. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the deal as the “Mother of All Deals,” emphasizing the enormous economic benefits it will create for millions of people across India and the 27-member EU bloc.

The comprehensive trade pact aims to open India’s vast yet regulated market to European goods under a free trade framework, while granting Indian exports easier access to EU markets. Currently, the EU stands as India’s largest trading partner, and this agreement is expected to enhance bilateral trade, diversify economic opportunities, and strengthen strategic partnerships.

During the India-EU summit in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen jointly announced the details of the agreement. According to Indian officials, the total trade volume between India and the EU reached $136.5 billion by the end of the 2025 fiscal year, underscoring the importance of this economic partnership.

While formal signing will follow legal reviews that may take five to six months, full implementation of the deal is expected within a year. Experts suggest that the agreement will particularly benefit labor-intensive sectors in India, boosting exports and creating jobs, while EU companies will gain competitive pricing advantages in the Indian market.

The timing of this historic trade pact is strategic, as both India and the EU seek alternative trade partnerships amidst uncertain trade conditions with the United States. Analysts predict that this deal will further solidify India’s role in global trade and strengthen Europe’s economic ties with emerging markets in Asia.
