IHC puts off hearing of Dr Mahrang Baloch’s ECL case

Date:

ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, an exchange of hot words was witnessed between Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Sarfaraz Dogar and Advocate Imaan Mazari, counsel for Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a Baloch nationalist, during the hearing of the case of excluding the latter’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

The CJ remarked that if he gave an order in the case, Advocate Imaan would, after the hearing, go downstairs and call him a dictator.

Imaan, however, disagreed with his comments and said that she had not said anything against the law.

“You should keep your mouth shut and behave,” shouted Justice Dogar.

The lawyer replied that she did not want her personal views to affect her client’s case. “If you are prejudiced towards me. This should have no bearing on Mahrang’s case,” she requested.

And when the CJ hinted at the initiation of contempt of court proceedings against Imaan, she replied that she had expressed her views by remaining within the constitution, but if the court deemed it fit to start contempt of court proceedings, then it could do so.

Speaking on the occasion, the deputy attorney general said that the cabinet’s sub-committee should be approached in order to exclude Mahrang’s name from the ECL.

Later, the court adjourned the case’s hearing.
