Human Rights Watch Flags Worst Abuses Under Taliban Rule

World Report 2026 warns justice, freedoms and women’s rights have sharply deteriorated

Kabul, Afghanistan | Web Desk: Human Rights Watch (HRW), in its World Report 2026, has raised grave concerns over the worsening human rights situation in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. The report states that access to justice, basic freedoms, and civil liberties has significantly declined, deepening the country’s humanitarian crisis.

According to HRW, corporal punishment, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and torture have become increasingly common. The Taliban government has imposed strict restrictions on media, while violence against civil society activists, journalists, and minority communities has intensified.

The report highlights that women have been systematically excluded from public life, with severe curbs on education, employment, and social participation, effectively pushing them out of the state system.

International experts warn that Taliban misgovernance has plunged Afghan society into severe economic and social distress. They caution that current policies pose serious risks not only to Afghanistan’s stability but also to regional security and peace, urging the global community to take immediate and decisive action.
