RIYADH/SANAA – Web Desk: Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group has claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Saudi Arabia’s state-owned Aramco Jazan refinery, while also launching a major missile and drone assault on Yemen’s Red Sea port of Al-Mukha.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group targeted the Aramco refinery in southwestern Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities confirmed a fire at the facility, which was later contained, with no casualties reported. The Jazan refinery is a critical facility with a processing capacity of approximately 400,000 barrels per day, producing gasoline and ultra-low-sulfur diesel.
Separately, Houthi attacks on Al-Mukha port hit civilian infrastructure and military positions. Initial reports indicate at least 11 people were killed, including 3 civilians and 8 military personnel, with approximately 32 wounded. Yemeni forces said air defenses shot down 11 Houthi drones.
The attacks come as tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis escalate amid broader regional conflict involving Iran, the US, and Israel. The Houthis last month declared a naval blockade in the Red Sea against Saudi Arabia, which Riyadh denies. Saudi Arabia recently signed a new defense pact with Turkey and Pakistan.
