Hot food in plastic containers may release thousands micro plastics

Date:

(Web Desk) – According to a recent analysis of past studies, hot food stored in plastic containers can lead to significantly higher releases of micro plastics.

Researchers found that hot coffee poured into plastic cups can release thousands more microplastic particles compared to cold coffee.

A growing body of research is warning that the daily ingestion of micro plastics may pose serious health risks. These include hormonal imbalances, diabetes, respiratory and reproductive problems, as well as an increased risk of several types of cancer.

Scientists say the unintentional consumption of these tiny particles is largely linked to single-use, disposable plastic cups and food containers.

Estimates suggest that around 500 billion disposable plastic cups are used globally every year
