Launched investigation after mother and child fall; relatives claim police coerced thumbprint
Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: Authorities in Lahore are investigating a tragic incident where a mother and her child fell into a manhole in Bhatti Gate. The victim’s family alleged that police forced them to place their thumbprints on plain paper during the legal proceedings, claiming coercion.
However, Lahore Police Operations Wing clarified that the thumbprint of the deceased’s father was obtained solely to correct errors in the official case documents. According to the police spokesperson, the correction involved the proper identification of the safety officer in the complaint.
The father’s thumbprint was applied in the presence of the deceased at the mortuary, following official investigation protocols. Police confirmed that all legal corrections have been completed and the case has been re-registered with accurate details.
Authorities stressed that the department empathizes with the grieving family. Senior officials confirmed that the SHO involved has been suspended and a high-level inquiry is ongoing.
