Web Desk, Gaza – The selection process for a new leader of Hamas has entered its final stage, with senior figures Khaled Mashal and Khalil al-Hayya emerging as key contenders.
According to a senior Hamas official, the organization recently established a new Shura Council of more than 80 members and an 18-member political bureau to oversee governance and decision-making. The Shura Council elects representatives every four years from Gaza, the West Bank, and the diaspora, and imprisoned members of the movement are also eligible to vote.
The leadership transition comes at a critical time for Hamas amid regional political developments and ongoing challenges in Gaza. The outcome of the election is expected to shape the group’s future strategic direction.
