Rawalpindi, Pakistan – Web Desk: A Green Line Express train traveling from Rawalpindi to Karachi experienced a derailment near Bakery Chowk, Rawalpindi, on Thursday. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the train was carrying only staff at the time of the incident.
According to Express News, the empty rake derailed while returning from Margalla, Islamabad to Rawalpindi before heading to Karachi. The engine and three carriages sank into the ground due to deteriorated tracks combined with high speed.
Railway authorities temporarily closed the up-line and diverted other train traffic to the down-line while emergency teams, including a crane and staff, conducted rescue and recovery operations. Deputy Superintendent of Railway Nooruddin Dawood visited the site to oversee the response.
The Green Line Express, which normally departs Rawalpindi for Karachi at 3:40 pm, is expected to experience delays. Other train schedules in the region may also be affected until track repairs are completed. Railway officials confirmed that all staff onboard escaped unhurt, suffering only minor shocks.
The incident underscores concerns about the condition of tracks on key railway routes and the need for infrastructure upgrades to prevent accidents in the future.
