Govt Plans to Move Imran Khan to Islamabad Jail, Says Naqvi

Date:

Islamabad: (Web Desk) – The Pakistani government has decided to transfer former prime minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to a newly constructed prison facility in Islamabad once it becomes operational, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Friday.

Speaking at a passing-out ceremony of Islamabad Police recruits, Naqvi stated that the decision was based on the fact that Khan’s conviction was handed down by a court in Islamabad. He added that the transfer would take place after the completion of the Islamabad jail, which is expected to be ready within two months.

According to the interior minister, the new facility will include comprehensive medical services and modern infrastructure designed to meet contemporary security and custodial standards. The move is likely to draw significant attention given Khan’s political stature and the ongoing legal and political developments surrounding the former premier.

During his address, Naqvi also highlighted efforts to strengthen the federal capital’s law enforcement capabilities. He described the passing-out ceremony as an important milestone for Islamabad Police, noting that authorities had previously lacked a dedicated force specialized in counter-terrorism operations. He said a six-month training programme was completed in an accelerated three-month period through intensive day-and-night training.

Naqvi credited the trainers and officers involved in preparing the recruits and announced plans to upgrade police training schools in Islamabad. He added that the upgraded facilities could eventually attract trainees from other regions and institutions.

Emphasizing the importance of strengthening security forces, the minister expressed confidence that the newly trained personnel would play a key role in combating terrorism and enhancing safety in the federal capital.

The planned transfer of Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is expected to remain under close public and political scrutiny as developments unfold.
