Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Former Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has issued a stern warning to Gulf countries, emphasizing that national security cannot be purchased from abroad. In an analysis shared on social media platform X, Zarif criticized neighboring states for relying on foreign military alliances over the past 50 years.
Zarif highlighted that external military bases do not bring stability but instead prepare the region for conflict. He recalled that several Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations had historically supported actions against Iran, including funding Saddam Hussein’s war against Iran (1980–1988), rejecting Iran’s regional security proposals in 1985, and backing US and Israeli military measures.
He also referenced recent decades, noting opposition to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), support for sanctions that harmed the Iranian economy, and rejection of agreements like the 2019 Hormuz Peace Initiative, effectively limiting Iran’s access to strategic waterways. Zarif accused Gulf states of assisting US-led actions during the Trump administration while being “humiliated and used as shields for Israel.”
Zarif concluded that while political leaders may come and go, Iran remains a permanent presence in the region, and that true security should be shared and built internally, not imported.
