Fitch Affirms Pakistan Rating, Cites Economic Stability

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Global credit rating agency Fitch Ratings has maintained Pakistan’s sovereign credit rating at “B-” with a stable outlook, signaling continued macroeconomic stability and policy consistency amid ongoing economic reforms.

According to the adviser to the finance ministry, Khurram Schehzad, the decision reflects improving economic fundamentals, structural reforms, and sustained policy direction under Pakistan’s ongoing economic adjustment program.

He said the rating affirmation highlights progress under the International Monetary Fund (International Monetary Fund (IMF)) supported reforms agenda, which continues to stabilize Pakistan’s economy and strengthen investor confidence.

Khurram Schehzad added that Pakistan is expected to receive a $1.2 billion tranche following IMF approval, while the reduction in policy interest rates to 10.5% reflects improving economic conditions.

He noted that Pakistan’s GDP growth is projected at 3.1%, with inflation expected to remain around 7.9%, indicating gradual stabilization despite global economic challenges.

Fitch’s decision to maintain the rating is being viewed by officials as a positive signal for financial markets, suggesting that Pakistan’s reform trajectory and fiscal discipline are moving in the right direction.
