European Union adds IRGC to terror list; Iran condemns move as “unjust, politically motivated”
Brussels, Belgium – Web Desk: The European Union has officially designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas confirmed that EU foreign ministers unanimously agreed on the decision.
Iran’s armed forces strongly condemned the move, calling it “illogical, irresponsible, and malicious,” claiming it blindly follows US and Israeli policies. The IRGC, established after the 1979 Iranian Revolution, operates under Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and plays a critical role in Iran’s defense, regional influence, and nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
The force has approximately 190,000 active personnel, with reserves exceeding 600,000, and supports allied groups across the Middle East. The United States had previously designated the IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization in 2019.
