Dutch Diplomat Caught Smuggling Starlink Devices in Iran

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Russian media reports claim that a Dutch diplomat was caught attempting to smuggle Starlink kits and satellite phones into Iran. According to footage shared by Iranian sources, the diplomat refused to allow his suitcase to pass through airport scanners.

The incident escalated into a diplomatic controversy when Iranian authorities confiscated the items. The diplomat left the country without retrieving the seized equipment, while another envoy later attempted to collect it, leading to further inspection.

Elon Musk’s Starlink service aims to provide internet access in Iran, but the country has banned its use, import, and distribution since last year, classifying the technology as illegal. Authorities warn that possession could be considered criminal or espionage-related, with potential imprisonment for users.

In response, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs lodged a strong protest over the confiscation at Tehran airport, summoning Iran’s ambassador in the Netherlands to address the matter.
