Dubai Warns Traders Over Ramadan Price Hikes, Announces Heavy Fines

Date:

Web Desk: Dubai authorities have announced strict measures against unjustified price increases during the holy month of Ramadan, warning traders and businesses of heavy penalties for violations.

According to Arab media reports, Dubai’s consumer protection authorities have launched pre-Ramadan inspections across markets and commercial centres to monitor prices and ensure compliance with government regulations.

Officials said price manipulation or unjustified increases in essential commodities such as rice, milk, sugar, cooking oil and other staple food items will not be tolerated.

Consumer protection officials emphasised that providing relief to the public during Ramadan is a government priority, and immediate action will be taken against businesses that exceed regulated price limits.

Retailers have been formally warned to strictly adhere to government-set prices and avoid profiteering or hoarding. Authorities also encouraged consumers to report price hikes or irregularities, assuring swift action on complaints.

Dubai’s administration said monitoring will continue throughout Ramadan to maintain market transparency and price stability.

Authorities further stated that traders or businesses found guilty of illegal price manipulation could face fines of up to AED 100,000 (approximately PKR 7.6 million).
