Driver dies as goods trains collide in Renala Khurd

RENALA: An assistant driver died and two others were injured as a freight train engine overturned after colliding with another goods train on Eastern Bypass in Renala Khurd on Thursday.

According to Railways authorities, the engine and several bogies fell off the railway track as a result of the accident.

The engine of the train which was coming from behind also hit the bogies with a powerful bang as a result of which assistant driver Imtiaz died on the spot while two people including the driver were injured in the accident.

Train movement on the Lahore-Karachi up and down railway tracks was suspended after wreck on wreck of goods train.

Rescue 1122, police and relief teams reached the spot after accident.

However, work to clear the up and down tracks could not be started from the Railway authorities and trains were stopped at several railway stations.

Trains will be dispatched when both tracks are cleared, Railways authorities said.
