ISLAMABAD – Web Desk: The caretaker chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan has announced that the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) will soon become operational in the region to strengthen security and law enforcement capabilities.

The announcement came after a meeting between Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Yar Muhammad Khan. Discussions focused on security arrangements for upcoming elections, maintenance of law and order, and initiatives to promote tourism.

The caretaker chief minister stated that operationalizing the CTD in Gilgit-Baltistan would enhance counterterrorism capabilities and improve the region’s security infrastructure. In response, the interior minister assured full federal support, including the provision of modern technology and equipment to strengthen CTD operations.

Naqvi emphasized that additional security personnel would be deployed during elections to ensure a peaceful environment. He reiterated that maintaining security and stability is essential for economic development and the growth of tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Authorities have prioritized security reforms in the region as part of broader efforts to improve governance and public safety. Officials say the activation of the CTD will enable more effective prevention and response to security threats.

Tourism remains a vital component of Gilgit-Baltistan’s economy, and officials believe enhanced security measures will encourage greater domestic and international travel to the region.
