Karachi — Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the immediate release of funds under the province’s wheat support package to ensure timely sowing across Sindh. Chairing a high-level meeting, he emphasized that small-scale farmers must receive financial assistance for purchasing urea and DAP fertilizers without delay.
The wheat sowing season in Sindh begins in late October and continues through December, varying by region and irrigation conditions. Upper Sindh districts such as Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, and Ghotki typically begin sowing in late October, while lower Sindh areas including Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Badin, and Thatta start mid-November.
CM Shah stated that the support program must reach genuine farmers swiftly to maximize participation before the season ends. He reiterated that the initiative aims to achieve self-sufficiency in wheat production and reduce reliance on imports, thereby saving valuable foreign exchange.
The meeting, held at the CM House, was attended by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Agriculture Secretary Zaman Narejo, and other officials.
The Sindh government had initially approved the provision of DAP and urea in commodity form on September 23, 2025. However, on October 24, the provincial cabinet endorsed a new system of direct cash assistance to ensure transparency and efficiency.
Under the revised plan:
- Each farmer will receive Rs. 14,000 per acre for DAP fertilizer.
- Rs. 8,000 per acre will be provided for two bags of urea.
- The total package is valued at Rs. 55 billion, targeting 412,000 farmers across 2.26 million acres.
To ensure transparency, the Agriculture Department has developed a comprehensive digital monitoring and verification system. This includes Android apps for field assistants, GPS-linked data, live dashboards, and automated SMS alerts for fund disbursement. Farmers upload documents such as CNIC, photographs, Form 7-B, and land records directly through the app.
CM Shah praised the department’s digital reforms but urged officials to ensure inclusivity so that no eligible farmer is excluded due to documentation issues. He also approved an extension of the registration deadline to November 8, 2025, allowing more farmers to benefit from the scheme.
“This support is crucial for our small farmers as they prepare for the upcoming wheat season,” said Shah. “We must guarantee transparency, timely payments, and equal access for all deserving beneficiaries.”
