Bangladesh Cricketer Nayeem Hasan Allegedly Assaulted by Police

Date:

Chattogram, Bangladesh – Web Desk: Bangladesh Test cricketer Nayeem Hasan has alleged that he was assaulted by police personnel in Chattogram, prompting calls for an independent investigation from cricket authorities.

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the incident occurred late Friday night when Hasan was travelling from Dhaka airport to Chattogram. The cricketer said he was stopped by police in the Lal Khan Bazar area while riding in a CNG auto-rickshaw.

Hasan alleged that officers forcibly removed him from the vehicle, transferred him to another rickshaw, and later assaulted him with sticks and plastic pipes without any clear explanation.

He further stated that he repeatedly identified himself as a national team player, but his explanation was ignored. He was later released and returned home.

Chattogram police said preliminary findings suggested possible procedural violations and confirmed that an internal inquiry has been launched. Authorities added that action would be taken against any officers found responsible.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh have called for a fair and impartial investigation into the incident. Senior cricketers, including Mushfiqur Rahim, also condemned the alleged assault on social media.

Hasan is currently part of Bangladesh’s squad for the upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe.
