Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan cricket authorities have ruled out the possibility of Babar Azam returning as captain of the national T20 side, according to official sources.
The clarification comes amid ongoing speculation following his strong performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 season, where he scored 588 runs and equaled a major batting record. Under his leadership, Peshawar Zalmi also secured the title.
Reports had suggested that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was considering a leadership change in the T20 format. However, a senior board official dismissed the claims, stating that no such discussion is currently underway within the team’s think tank.
Sources indicated that the current focus of the management is on red-ball cricket and preparing for upcoming ICC Championship fixtures, with T20 planning expected to be reviewed at a later stage.
Officials also emphasized that modern T20 cricket prioritizes younger, more aggressive batting approaches, and future selection strategies are likely to reflect that direction.
While Babar Azam remains one of Pakistan’s most experienced batters, his recent T20 international strike rate and previous tournament performances have been part of ongoing internal evaluations.
Pakistan’s next T20 assignment is scheduled for October, when they are set to face Sri Lanka in a three-match series.
