Pakistan’s defending champion finishes ninth in the men’s javelin final, while Sri Lanka claims gold and India secures silver and bronze.
GLASGOW, Scotland — WEB DESK: Arshad Nadeem failed to retain his Commonwealth Games men’s javelin title after finishing ninth in the final, as Rumesh Tharanga claimed the gold medal in Glasgow.
The Pakistani star, who entered the competition as the defending champion, struggled to produce his best performance during the final.
Arshad Nadeem’s performance
Arshad’s opening attempt was ruled a foul, while his second throw reached 77.41 metres and his third measured 75.39 metres.
His performance placed him ninth among 12 finalists, leaving him outside the medal positions.
Arshad had qualified for the final after recording a best throw of 78.63 metres, finishing seventh in the qualification round.
Rumesh Tharanga claims gold
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga delivered the winning throw of 89.75 metres to secure the gold medal.
India’s Neeraj Chopra took the silver medal with a best throw of 85.83 metres, while fellow Indian Yash Veer Singh earned the bronze medal.
Defending Champion Falls Short
Arshad Nadeem entered the competition aiming to defend the Commonwealth Games title he had previously won for Pakistan. However, he was unable to replicate his earlier success as the competition featured strong performances from regional rivals.
