Web Desk – London, United Kingdom: Amnesty International has issued a strong warning over recent remarks by former US President Donald Trump regarding Iran, cautioning that such statements could amount to advocacy of actions that violate international law.
The organization’s Secretary General, Agnès Callamard, described the threats as “dangerous” and “deeply concerning,” particularly references to targeting civilian infrastructure such as bridges and power plants.
Callamard warned that any such attacks could have devastating humanitarian consequences, depriving civilians of access to electricity, water, and safe shelter. She emphasized that targeting civilian infrastructure could constitute violations of international humanitarian law and potentially amount to war crimes.
She also shared a social media post attributed to Trump in which he signaled the possibility of strong action against Iran, further raising concerns among rights groups.
Amnesty International urged the global community to take immediate notice of such rhetoric and any potential actions, calling for urgent steps to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East. Analysts say the warning reflects growing fears that escalating rhetoric could translate into actions with serious legal and humanitarian implications.
